Malachy Ugwumadu

Barrister Malachy Ugwumadu graduated from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka and he was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2002 which was preceded by a historical legal battle against the authorities of the University of Nigeria (UNN) who withheld his degree certificate and refused to recommend him to his consist to the Nigeria Law school on account of his consistent resistance to the university obnoxious policies including the abuse of the rights of students.
He had the privilege of providing leadership at several levels particularly as the presidents of the civil liberties Organization (CLO UNEC Unit from 1992 – 1996) and subsequently the coordinator of the committee for the Defense of Human Rights (CDHR UNEC Branch from 1996 – 1998).
Today he is the Legal Adviser of the Alumni Association of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) Lagos State Branch. He was also a senior Research/Programme officer at the Committee for the Degree of Human Rights (CDHR) between 1998 – 2000 during which Mr. Falana was also the National President of the CDHR Barr. Malachy Ugwumadu eventually became the National General Secretary of the CDHR and had the priviledge of strategically repositioning the organization to respond to the challenges of human rights protection under civilian dispensation and he was involved in human development programmes through thermatic lectures, trainings, workshops and symposia
Between 1998 and 1999, he doubled as the National deputy secretary of Joint Action Congress of Nigeria (JACON) creditably led by late chief Gani Fawehinmi (SAN).The Joint Action Congress of Nigeria (JACON) was a coalition of all known human rights, pro-democracy and civil society organizations and NGO’s in Nigeria.
